Gather AI and Grapevine FAQ
Last updated: January 20, 2026
After early feedback and careful consideration, we've decided to sunset Gather AI and open-source Grapevine so we can focus our efforts on what Gather does best: building the best virtual office experience.
FAQs
When is Gather AI going away?
Gather AI will no longer be available in Gather workspaces after January 23, 2026.
When is Grapevine going away?
Grapevine will be shut down on February 6, 2026. On that date, all data will be deleted, the website will be shut off, and the Grapevine Slackbot will stop responding.
Is there a way I can keep using Grapevine? What does “self-hosting” mean?
Yes! We've open-sourced the codebase, so anyone can self-host Grapevine on their own infrastructure.
To be specific, this means we will provide all the code needed to build and run the services that make up the Grapevine product. We will also provide Kubernetes manifests that can be used to configure these services to run on your own Kubernetes cluster.
You will be responsible for provisioning a Kubernetes cluster, and all the other infrastructure resources needed to run Grapevine (including databases, load balancers, keys, and storage).
Note: You will be responsible for any costs associated with your Grapevine instance. Your exact spend will vary by load, but will likely exceed what you would spend on the Gather-hosted Grapevine instance.
I'm interested in self-hosting. How do I get started?
Please read this self-hosting guide. It covers everything you need to know about running your own instance.
If you have any questions, Grapevine engineers are available to help until February 6, 2026. Just shoot us an email at support@gather.town and we'll be in touch!
What happens to my Grapevine data?
On February 6, 2026, when we shut down Grapevine, we will delete all of your company’s Grapevine data. If you would like a copy of your company data, or would like to migrate it into your self-hosted version of Grapevine, please contact us at support@gather.town before February 6, 2026. After that date, we will be unable to recover any Grapevine data.
What support can Gather give me on Grapevine?
Until February 6, 2026, Grapevine engineers are available to talk through any questions as you set up your own self-hosted instance. We are also available to help you with your data migration, if you would like to migrate any data out of the Gather-hosted Grapevine instance into your own.
After February 6, 2026, Gather will not be able to provide any Grapevine-related support. The code will be provided as-is, with no guarantee of further assistance.
